SYSTEM SIZING
1. How much electricity do you use each month? Look at your electric bills from the last 6 months (or less) and find the average number of Kilowatt Hours (KwH) per month. Write that number down.
2. What percentage of your house/business power usage will be supplied by POWERGRID net metering system? If 100% then skip this step, if less then multiply the average KwH by that percentage and find the KwH to be produced by POWERGRID monthly. 3. Multiply the number by 7.5 will give the total watts of photovoltaic panels needed. Calculating KwH produced by a system is a very technical calculation. We have created the factor of 7.5 (this for Virgin Islands only) to give you a average nameplate rating of the system size in Watts. Following items will make a difference on the final system size or the amount of energy a said system will generate: Azimuth - The directions the panels. Typically photovoltaic panels should face South or South West. Tilt - The angle of the panels. The photovoltaic panels could be flat or 0 degree like on a concrete roof, optimum is 18 degrees. Shadow - Trees, bushes, neighbouring buildings or homes and even surrounding hills can cast a shadow on the system. Shadows will have a negative effect on the total energy produced. The above estimate can vary +/- 20%. This is the safest closest estimate you can make without a actual site inspection.
